What is a friend?

I look at scripture and I see the concept of a friend...


Pro 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Pro 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Joh 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

It seems to me that friends are a blessing from God. They should never be taken lightly. If you have a friend be thankful to God for them. If you are a friend... then be a friend as the Lord has given exapmles of. I know people that say they are friends... but do not act like it. I love what the scripture tells us about Jonathan and David...


1Sa 18:1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

Do we love our friend as our own soul? You don't see that much any more. I wish that we did.


Ecc 4:8 There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.
Ecc 4:9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
Ecc 4:10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
Ecc 4:11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
Ecc 4:12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
